Official potty training for DS started a week before he turned 3. And by official, I mean he was READY to be potty trained. At that time, he was already conscious of his body and didn’t want the feeling of wetness. I guess what I’ve read after all this time is right. He’ll be potty trained when he’s ready.
It only took him a few days to go on the potty on his own. And it took about two weeks for him to start using the toilet to go number 2. Currently, he still uses the small potty to go number 1 sometimes, depending on his mood, but he also knows how to do it standing up as well.
It’s nice that he can just go run to the potty whenever he feels like it at home without us having to keep following him. He knows that he needs to wash his hands when he’s done. Everything’s great until night time comes and he’s afraid to go in the restroom in the dark. The light switch is too high and I wouldn’t want him to climb the stool in the dark anyway for safety reasons, so DH did a little something for our DS.
DH installed a wireless light switch in the hallway that is connected to a lampshade in the bathroom. So every time DS needs the potty, he can turn on the lampshade from the switch and then turn it off when he’s done.
