It’s been almost a month now that I haven’t had my own computer to work with. My beloved MAC broke, so I’ve been using my DH’s laptop and my son’s pc (<—an old Dell that already pretty slow). It’s been difficult, since DH often needs to bring his computer to work and my DS uses his to play his Easy Link Game. It’s also difficult saving my files in other computers aside from my own. =(
DH is a tech genius, he did everything he can to try to fix the problem. He reinstalled software and checked whatever application he could to find out what happened, but nothing worked.
According to the repair dudes, the MAC’s motherboard got burned. Unfortunately, it’s past the 3 year warranty already, meaning it will cost us $700 for them to repair it. WoWza! That’s the price of a new PC, or a used MAC. DH said he can probably get the motherboard and install the motherboard himself for $500. Or we can just scrap the MAC and buy a refurbished one or save up for a new one. As I was preparing to be without a computer for a while till we save some money, I was also thinking of ways to properly scrap the MAC. It would be very sad to just junk a very expensive computer.
DH decided that since we’re pretty much at a loss already, there would be no harm done if he opened up the computer himself. With careful examination, he found a burnt capacitor in the motherboard. He then found a place to purchase capacitors online and ordered a few. When they finally arrived, he started working on the computer with his soldering gun. Then, he reinstalled the Operating System and software that was there before. And guess what? The computer works! My husband saved us hundreds of dollars! The MAC was fixed for under $30 dollars (3 capacitors, shipping and a new soldering gun)!
I told you he was a genius!
