I didn’t have the opportunity to breastfeed my firstborn as much as I wanted to.  I’m doing a lot better with our second child.

Breastfeeding is such a lifesaver when it comes to energy, effort and money! Our little girl actually sleeps pretty good throughout the night, about 4-6 hours.  And if she does wake up in between, instead of waking up to get her a bottle, I just have to give her a boob.  I don’t even have to get out of bed. Not having to buy formula is another plus, considering how expensive everything costs nowadays. I also love that fact that I don’t have to wash as many bottles as often.  I only have to wash bottles that we use whenever we’re out of the house.

Breastmilk Storage Facts

1.Did you know that breastmilk can be stored at the back of the freezer for up to 3 months? I use disposable 5 oz storage bags made by Medela and they fit just right in the freezer. They seem a little pricey, compared to the reusable ones made by Avent or others, but they hold more milk and they’re less bulky than the other containers.

2. Never microwave your breast milk. You can thaw them by leaving them out in the refrigerator. You can also by running the sealed container in hot water.

3. After you thaw frozen breastmilk, it needs to be used within 24 hours and do not refreeze.

4. Freshly pumped breastmilk can be stored up to 8 days at the back of the the refrigerator.

5. Discard refrigerated breastmilk if you have leftovers after a feeding if not consumed in 2 hours.
